8 reasons your company website needs a blog

You might be wondering whether running a blog is really necessary for your business. It’s just another thing to worry about, right? It takes time and effort to create content, and what do you actually get in return?

Sure, having a blog is nice, and it probably has a few benefits, but do you really need one?

While you may not need to have one, there are endless reasons why your company would benefit from having a blog, and here’s some of the big ones.

1.Answer your audience’s questions

Your blog is a great place to answer your audience’s questions. You can provide educational content which teaches them about your products or services, provides solutions to their problems, and goes into detail about the specifics you don’t really have space for in a tweet.

It’s a great idea to use your blog as an extension of your customer service efforts. Start by sharing the answers to some of your frequently asked questions in detail on your blog, making it really easy to link and refer back to every time someone asks.

When you blog about things that are important to your customers, and use your expertise to find solutions to their problems, you show that you really care about them. This helps to build trust between you and your audience.

2. Build your online brand

Many people will expect you to have a blog. Gone are the days where blogs were dominated by individuals. In 2022, content marketing is a hugely important part of your online brand.

Having a platform to share your ideas and discuss your expert opinions is a great way to build your online presence and become a go-to place for your audience to discover more about you and your company.

Giving your brand a voice, and providing interesting thoughts and snippets from industry life helps to build your online brand and assist your content marketing efforts.

3. Drive traffic to your website

One of the best things about having a blog is it provides another way for people to find your website.

Businesses that blog get 55% more website traffic than those that don’t. That’s largely because if someone finds one of your blog posts while searching Google, you gain yourself an extra reader who might not have heard of you otherwise.

Creating shareable content that captures people’s interest will result in more links and gateways to your site. From there, you can point them in the direction of your products or services so they stay on your website for longer and potentially even drive more sales.

4. Tell your story

Your blog is the perfect place to tell your brand’s story. You can keep your audience updated with company news and announcements, as well as sharing thoughts and opinions on industry developments and other snippets your audience might enjoy.

Sharing stories from employees is a nice way to introduce your audience to your team, and help them put a face to a name. Whether you share behind-the-scenes content, milestones and achievements by the team, or other fun information – your customers will appreciate seeing the human-side to your brand for a change.

5. Establish authority in your field

As well as building your online brand, by sharing your industry knowledge, opinions and ideas, you’ll begin to establish your company as an authority in your field which goes a long way to building trust within your community.

Whether you want to be known as experts, thought-leaders or leading companies in your field – having a platform to showcase your knowledge and expertise is a really good starting point.

6. Generate further income

Blogging is a billion dollar industry. There is money to be made from having a blog, and you’d be silly to ignore this opportunity.

Whether you go down the route of sponsored posts, display adverts, or affiliate links – you could generate more income for your business by having a blog, so what’s stopping you?

7. Improve your SEO

Search engines are fickle things. They frequently change their minds about the rules, what the best practices are, and how to achieve the ranking that everyone so desires. There’s one thing that has been true since the dawn of the internet, and it’s that search engines love content.

There are lots of things you’ll need to do to ensure your website ranks well on Google and other platforms, but having a blog is a really useful addition. A consistent stream of fresh, new blog posts, rich with keywords and other user-friendly assets, is great for improving your website’s SEO.

Just make sure you’re providing your audience with valuable content that they’re going to stick around and read – then you’re golden.

8. Generate shareable content for social media

Sharing interesting content is one of the top reasons people follow brands on social media. By using your blog to create content that can be cross promoted across all your social platforms, you can fill up your social media calendar with minimal extra effort and reach a wider audience at the same time. Win, win.
